VanHorn 940nm Red Light Dog Blanket — Small

Small dog did not mean “just make the big one tiny and call it good.” I wanted the compact version to keep the same design logic as the rest of the line: fit the animal properly, stay cordless, and use 660 + 850 + 940 nm because three distinct wavelength bands made more sense to me than burning one of three emitters on a duplicate.

Product Specifications

• Designed for dogs approximately 15–30 lb
• Main lighted pad is approximately 12” long × 9–10” wide
• Flexible design can extend over the hips
• Adjustable collar strap plus two belly Velcro straps
• 128 LED packages
• Each LED package combines 660 + 850 + 940 nm
• Includes a magnetic charging connection

Why 660 + 850 + 940 nm?

I looked at the common 660/850/850 setup and thought: why use one of three emitters to repeat the exact same wavelength? I kept 660 and 850 because they each earn their spot, then used the third channel for 940 nm. That gives every LED package three distinct wavelength bands instead of two.

I’m not into spec-sheet fluff. If I add something to a product, I want a technical reason for it to be there. 660 + 850 + 940 was an intentional engineering decision, not a copied factory default.

850 nm and 940 nm are outside the visible spectrum, so it is normal for those LEDs not to appear bright red. The 940 nm output is invisible to the naked eye.

940 nm: What Does the Research Show?

Human fresh-cadaver research measured transmission of 940 nm infrared light through 4 cm of head tissue, supporting its ability to travel substantially beyond the skin surface. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33166061/)

In a direct 810-vs-940 nm laboratory study of periodontal-ligament-derived stem cells, the 940 nm / 2.5 J/cm² condition increased viability and proliferation under the tested protocol. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35293711/)

A 2025 LED study comparing 625, 810, 940 and 1050 nm found the tested 940 nm / 52 J/cm² condition produced particularly strong effects on cartilage-matrix markers and improved outcomes in its mouse knee-osteoarthritis model. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41163191/)

These studies support the wavelength-selection rationale rather than proving a specific veterinary treatment outcome. Results depend on irradiance, dose, treatment geometry and tissue.

How Do I Start?

For a new animal, start conservatively — around 10 minutes at a lower setting — and increase gradually based on tolerance and your veterinarian’s guidance. Supervise your dog throughout every session.

Fit & Placement

Position the lighted panel so it sits flat against the target area with the straps snug enough to keep the blanket in place without restricting normal breathing or movement. The flexible pad can be shifted toward the hips or other target areas as needed.

Charging, Care & Safety

Use the supplied magnetic charging connection and keep the port clean and dry. Turn the device off before cleaning, wipe with a dry cloth, and store away from moisture, excessive heat and dust. This product is intended for general wellness and supportive care and is not a substitute for veterinary diagnosis or treatment.
